We talked about sales development Alin Bordeanu, Founder and CEO of Breedxy.
How would you describe your company in an elevator pitch?
Breed XY brings performance to breed societies (Sheep, Goat, Pigs, Cows) and breeders by providing integrated software solutions that offer all tools for running a breeding programme efficiently: performing breeding book management, performance testing and genetic evaluation.
BreedXY brings together breed societies, breeders, performance testing organizations and state authorities for finding the common ground for performance.
What are you the best at?
Integration of solutions, compliance with regulation and the team, these are the uniques that brought where we are today. We are able to really dive into the problems that our customers are facing and find fast, reliable, innovative solutions that also comply with the regulations. We are there for our customers and we are partners in their journey.
How did you find your first customers?
In Romania, with a reputation in raising domestic animals, especially sheep, there was a need for a controlled reproductive program to improve the traits of animals (such as the quantity or quality of the milk, meat, fiber wool, etc.). Breeding societies helped local farmers adapting a controlled and monitored breeding program. But this needed a proper system in place. Our first clients used rudimentary methods to record reproductive events and performance evaluations – a lot of hand written paper work, no standard followed, impossibility to scale to more animals and breeders.
BreedXY appeared as a software solution that provides access to all necessary tools for the breeding book management in a standard and easy way.
Once we had a couple of clients, the word of mouth worked great for us. Providing great services and quality brought us to almost all possible clients in Romania on Ovine species.
What are your customers saying about your product?
To quote one of our clients and to brag a little bit: “It is what is needed. It brings clarity and direction. You should work for state authorities”(state authorities are the ones that implement and control the rules and context for breeding).
We continuously try to improve and this means change and change is not always easy.
What are your proud achievements so far?
Having the team that innovates in a sector that is not that really open to innovation.
We changed the status quo even if it was backed up “by the way things work” or “by the law”.
Bringing breeding societies on board required an innovative educational effort.
What is the next big thing in your industry?
We have the system and the tools for what it takes to run a breeding programme, but we feel we are not quite there yet in term of performance:
- We want to promote more extensively technology using – reproductive events are still collected with pen and paper – this is prone to many errors.
- Bring more focus on flock performance globally – help farmers understand their animals’ value, understand what to buy in terms of performance, in a sense how to quantify the performance.
What are your plans for next 6-12 months?
Bring new talent into the team (sales, marketing) in order to achieve our internationalization plans. We want to partner with breeders and breed societies outside of Romania, in different EU countries to work together on improving production quality livestock.
